Are you ready to make a commitment to clean energy?

Charlottesville-based solar energy company Sun Tribe Solar has helped organizations of all shapes and varieties develop innovative solar projects – and they can help your organization reap the economic and environmental benefits of going solar too!

We’re proud to have them on board as a participant in and sponsor of the 2018-19 Better Business Challenge.

This past August, Sun Tribe Solar and Middlesex County Public Schools joined up for a ribbon-cutting that celebrated the completion of a new system (pictured above) that breaks records for solar energy in Virginia. The new 1 MW solar system – the second of its kind in the Virginia public school environment – will completely power St. Clare Walker Middle School and Middlesex Elementary School with an annual generation of 1.6 GWh, the equivalent of reducing gasoline consumption by about 134,000 gallons. According to Sun Tribe Solar, "the array is the largest single net-metered installation for a school in Virginia as well as the first large ground-mounted solar system for a Virginia public school."

Below, we’ve highlighted some of the other leading-edge solar projects that Sun Tribe Solar has installed for local companies and institutions – projects that will surely inspire others to realize the benefits that renewable energy can have on the future of their organization – and the community.

University of Virginia Clemons Library: To help UVA achieve its greenhouse gas emission reduction goals, Sun Tribe partnered with the University to install a new 141kW roof mount solar panel array at Clemons Library. Sun Tribe Solar estimates the system will generate 190,410 kWh per year.

“UVa has added 324 solar panels to the library’s roof since mid-February, totaling approximately 7,530 square feet. The panel array is expected to generate 15 percent of Clemons Library’s energy.” The Daily Progress

Green Applications: Sun Tribe Solar worked with Green Applications to install a new 868kW roof mount solar energy system at their expansive printing and distribution facility in Orange County, Va. With a core value interest in renewable energy and environmental sustainability, Green Applications’ system features more than 2,500 panels and provides almost 50 percent of the facility’s energy usage.

“The system represents the largest net metered system in the state, the largest behind-the-meter Power Purchase Agreement in Virginia since Dominion started the pilot program and a shift toward more of Virginia’s manufacturers embracing solar power.” Culpeper Star-Exponent

Colonial Nissan: Recently, crews completed installation of a one-of-a-kind solar superstructure atop Colonial Nissan’s building in Charlottesville. The new solar canopy is expected to offset 93 percent of the dealership’s electricity usage.

“It has 480 solar panels, could reduce carbon emissions by 191 tons annually, and represents the first of its kind in Virginia.” WMRA Radio
